Couple Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Couple (“we”, “us”, or “our”) operates the Couple mobile application (Android package com.couplechat.app, the “App”) so two people can message, share photos and voice notes, place voice or video calls, and keep shared memories, notes, events, and wishes.

This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, whom we share it with, and the choices you have. By using the App, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

2. Information we collect

We collect information you provide and information generated when you use the App.

Account and profile

Email address and display name
Profile photo (if you set one or sign in with Google or Apple)
Sign-in provider (email and password, Google, or Apple)
Email verification status and account identifier

Couple

Couple name, start date (if you enter one), invite code, and pairing status
Profile information of the person you pair with, to the extent they share it in the App

Messages and media

Text messages
Photos you capture or choose from your library for chat, memories, or your avatar
Voice notes and their duration
Reactions on messages

Calls

Call type (voice or video), call identifier, and participants
Audio and video transmitted in real time to connect the call. The App does not store call recordings.

Shared content

Memory photos, events (title, detail, date), love notes, and wishes

Notifications

Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) device token
Device platform (Android or iOS) and app language
Incoming-call notification data (call id, caller, call type)

Technical data

Sign-in session kept by Firebase Authentication on the device
Local cache: recent messages, language preference, email used for a sign-in link, and a pending invite code
Standard server logs (request time, API path, error codes)

The App does not show ads and does not use a behavioral analytics SDK to sell your data to third parties.

3. How we use information

Create, authenticate, and manage your account
Pair you with one person and sync shared content between you
Send and receive messages, photos, and voice notes
Place voice and video calls
Deliver push notifications, including incoming calls, when you allow them
Store photos and media files you upload
Keep the App reliable and secure, and respond when you contact us
Comply with legal obligations

Content you send inside a couple (messages, photos, voice notes, memories, notes, events, and wishes) is shared with the person you paired with.

4. Permissions on your device

The App may request the following permissions:

Camera — to take photos and place video calls
Microphone — to send voice notes and place voice or video calls
Photos — to choose images for chat, memories, or your avatar
Notifications — to alert you about messages and incoming calls
Internet — to sync data with our servers

You can change or revoke permissions in your device settings. Some features may not work without them.

5. How we store data

On your device: the Firebase sign-in session; cached messages, language, and other local data
On our servers: account, couple, messages, memories, events, notes, wishes, and notification data linked to your account
Photos and media: uploaded to cloud storage (Cloudflare R2) through time-limited upload links
Calls: audio and video pass through our call provider in real time to connect the two devices

We use HTTPS to protect data in transit. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure.

6. Third-party services

We use service providers to operate the App. They process data only as needed to provide their services:

Google Firebase Authentication — email/password sign-in and session
Google Sign-In — optional sign-in with your Google account
Sign in with Apple — optional sign-in with your Apple account
Firebase Cloud Messaging — push notifications
Couple API — backend at https://api.uyen-uong.stream/ for account, chat, media, couple, and call data
Cloudflare R2 — photo and media hosting
LiveKit — real-time call audio and video

Google’s use of information from Firebase and Google Sign-In is governed by Google’s Privacy Policy. Apple’s handling of sign-in information is governed by Apple’s policies.

We do not sell your personal information.

7. Data retention

We keep your information while your account is active and as needed to provide the App, comply with law, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Cached data on your device is removed when you sign out or uninstall the App, subject to platform behavior.

8. Your choices and rights

Profile: view and update your display name and photo in the App
Notifications: manage them in the App or in device settings
Photos and microphone: choose whether to grant camera, photo library, and microphone access
Sign out: ends the session on this device
Content: delete memories, events, notes, or wishes you created, from inside the App

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, or to object to or restrict certain processing. Contact us to exercise these rights (see Section 13).

9. Account and data deletion

You may request deletion of your account and associated personal data by emailing [email protected] from the email address linked to your account. We will verify your request and delete or anonymize data within a reasonable period, except where we must retain information for legal, security, or fraud-prevention purposes.

Uninstalling the App removes local data from your device but does not delete server-side account data.

10. Children’s privacy

The App is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.

11. International transfers

Your information may be processed in countries other than where you live, including where our servers or service providers operate. We take steps designed to protect your information in line with this policy.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised policy at this URL and update the effective date. Continued use of the App after changes means you accept the updated policy.
